Piega Premium Gen2 Passive Speakers unveiled

Piega introduced two new passive models in its Premium Gen2 speaker lineup at the Bristol Hi-Fi Show 2025 last week: the Piega Premium 301 Gen2 bookshelf speaker and the Piega Premium 701 Gen2 floorstanding speaker. These latest additions feature a “luxurious design” along with newly engineered ribbon tweeters and upgraded bass and midrange drivers.

The Piega Premium Gen2 speakers boast an exterior designed by Stefan Hürlemann. Their cabinets are constructed from seamless aluminum panels and incorporate an internal wooden bracing system that enhances acoustic performance. The protective grille, which is removable, is subtly curved to complement the cabinet’s design. The anodized aluminum variants of the Premium Gen2 series feature a matte sandblasted finish, resulting in a more cohesive aesthetic compared to their matte predecessors.

Both of the new models are equipped with the recently developed RM 01-24 series ribbon tweeters, named in tribute to their inventors, Roger Kessler and Mario Ballabio. The design of these meticulously crafted symmetrical drivers (SSD) draws inspiration from the acclaimed Coax series tweeters. The developers assert that the incorporation of dual magnets positioned at both the front and rear of the diaphragm, which is constructed from high-quality foil, allows the new tweeters to deliver a “significantly more dynamic” performance compared to the earlier Premium speakers that utilized foil drive solely at the rear.

The developers assert that the unique damping material utilized within the Premium Gen2 enclosures, which is also derived from the higher-end models of the Coax series, enables the achievement of “sound quality that was once deemed unattainable with traditional aluminum enclosures.”

The Piega Premium 301 Gen2 bookshelf speaker has dimensions of 170 x 310 x 228 mm (W x H x D) and is reported to operate within a frequency range of 39 Hz to 50 kHz (±2 dB). It features a two-way design, incorporating a 140 mm FSD-M woofer and an RM 01-24 tweeter. The sensitivity rating is 89 dB, and it has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms.

The three-way floor-standing model Piega Premium 701 Gen2 features the same nominal impedance across its design. Its dimensions measure 170 x 1,115 x 228 mm . These speakers deliver sound within a frequency range of 34 Hz to 50 kHz and are outfitted with two 140 mm FSD drivers for low frequencies, a 140 mm FSD-M driver for midrange, and an RM 01-24 tweeter. The sensitivity of this floor-standing model is slightly elevated at 90 dB. Notably, the Piega Premium 701 Gen2 speakers rest on a round base that visually detaches from the main body, giving the illusion that the speakers are suspended in mid-air.
