The Pioneer VSX-935 AV receiver features an enhanced array of functions and superior sound quality compared to its predecessor, making it a highly appealing option within its price range. With seven built-in amplifiers, the VSX-935 is capable of supporting a surround sound setup, ranging from a traditional 7.1 configuration with four rear speakers to a 5.2.2 setup that includes two rear speakers and two ceiling speakers, compatible with the latest Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio formats.
A key distinction between the VSX series receivers and the higher-end LX line from Pioneer lies in the use of classic Class AB amplification, which is constructed with discrete components. While the lower-tier LX models also utilize similar amplifiers, the premium models are equipped with proprietary Direct Energy HD Class D3 amplification modules that operate in Class D.
The Pioneer VSX-935 AV receiver features advanced Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoders, enabling comprehensive sound reproduction in these immersive 3D audio formats. This model also includes modes designed to create virtual surround sound for standard multi-channel audio tracks. With seven built-in amplifiers, the Pioneer VSX-935 can support a variety of surround sound configurations, ranging from the traditional 7.1 setup with four rear speakers to a 5.2.2 arrangement that incorporates two rear speakers and a pair of ceiling speakers for optimal performance with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X content.
Additionally, for the overhead channels, users can opt for ceiling-mounted speakers—an ideal choice being in-ceiling models from renowned acoustic brands—or speakers placed atop the front pair that utilize ceiling reflection (commonly referred to as Dolby Atmos speakers), which greatly eases the home theater installation process. Furthermore, the Pioneer VSX-935 is capable of simulating virtual ceiling speakers by blending information from the upper channels into the other channels of the surround sound system during stream decoding, effectively emulating 3D audio with the current speaker setup.
The Pioneer VSX-935 features a new version of the famous proprietary MCACC system for auto-calibration of sound to the acoustic characteristics of the room. Based on measurements obtained using the supplied calibration microphone, it not only compensates for the influence of the environment and levels the resulting amplitude-frequency response of the system, but also effectively combats standing sound waves and room resonances, which has the most favorable effect on the sound.
Like any component of a modern home entertainment system, the Pioneer VSX-935 receiver can be integrated into a home computer network. For this purpose, the device is equipped with an Ethernet RJ-45 port, and also supports wireless Wi-Fi networks in the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz ranges.
The receiver’s wireless arsenal also includes support for the Bluetooth protocol version 4.2, which allows you to stream music directly from your smartphone or tablet. Integration into a home computer network will allow you to access audio tracks located on DLNA servers in your home network, as well as numerous streaming services on the Internet, including such popular resources as Spotify, TIDAL and Deezer. Pioneer VSX-934 fully supports playback of high-resolution audio in WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF formats with parameters up to 24 bit / 192 kHz, as well as in DSD with a frequency of 2.8 and 5.6 MHz.
Two HDMI output ports working in parallel will allow you to install the Pioneer VSX-935 in home theaters with two display devices. For example, when the projector is used to watch movies, and for other tasks such as computer games or watching TV broadcasts and shows, preference is given to the TV.
It should be emphasized that just two or three years ago, the ability to scale video and a pair of HDMI output ports were an attribute of only top models of AV receivers, and today much more affordable devices have such capabilities. The AV receiver also has a USB for connecting portable storage devices with music files. All this turns the Pioneer VSX-935 into an independent source of music that does not even need any external devices. For convenient control of all operating modes of the Pioneer VSX-935, you can use the proprietary mobile application.
